About Alane

Alane grew up in an old Quaker town called Whittier in Southern California. For college, she attended the University of Southern California where she wanted to be an English major, but her family convinced her to become an accountant so she could help run a family business. Alane spent the next few decades trying to get back to writing instead of balancing budgets. After leaving the family business in 2008, she started a foundation focusing on global poverty issues, particularly their effect on children. Alane pursued a Masters Degree in Diplomacy and took several field visits with UNICEF, visiting schools around the world. After seeing the importance of education and literacy in the battle to end extreme poverty, Alane began to shift the focus of her foundation to improving and supporting literacy efforts. In 2009 she was invited to teach a course on social entrepreneurship at Chapman University and joined the full-time faculty for the next five years. Along the way, her passion for literacy and children came together when her 12-year-old son Alex challenged her to write a book he could read. She began writing the Legends of Orkney book series and hasn’t stopped writing since that day. Her picture books The Coal Thief , The Egg Thief, The Santa Thief, and The Circus Thief are based on stories from her father’s life growing up in Pennsylvania at the turn of the century. Alane also wrote a spinoff of the Legends of Orkney series, The Witches of Orkney, a five-book series for younger fantasy readers. Her other series, The Legends of Olympus delves into Greek mythology with The Eye of Zeus and The Medusa Quest available now. Her biggest project is one she is most excited about! Between The Pages is an award-winning virtual digital video series that teaches students how stories get made created for teachers to use in the classroom. Check out this exciting award-winning series at the Between The Pages tab! As part of finding ways to get kids excited and engaged in the reading and writing process, Alane expanded her Alane Adams Studios into creating animated shorts that engage kids creativity in new ways. The first complete short, R.A.K.O the Robot was written by talented fifth graders and brought to life by the studio. With the exciting release of Smudge, a studio original, Alane has firmly established her footprint in creating content supported by educational worksheets that thrill and engage students around the country.

When Alane is not writing or creating new content, she is out hiking somewhere in the world or hanging out with her kids and grandkids who are her greatest joy. Thank you for visiting her page.
